05. Bamboo Cooking Accessories

I am definitely on a cookwares kick, which means I want to pass all of my knowledge on to you all, because all of your healthy cooking and buying organic, grass fed and wild foods are for naught if your cookware and utensils are latent with toxic, crap ingredients.  Basically, modern plastic and silicone cooking utensils are the processed, toxic and carcinogenic foods of kitchen wares. These are derived from petroleum and contain harmful ingredients, including  teflon, BPA, lead, aluminum, and phthalates. Even popular brands like oxo and kitchenaid use combinations of plastic, silicone, adhesives, and other unnatural ingredients in their products.

This is really disappointing, but the problem can be solved by turning to bamboo.  Bamboo is a perfect material to use in your kitchen.  Bamboo is clean, nontoxic, anti-microbial, doesn’t scratch cooking surfaces and is heat-resistant. Bamboo is also very lightweight and very durable.  You can trade out your toxic plastic or wood cutting boards for bamboo cutting boards and your plastic or silicone cooking utensils for bamboo cooking utensils.  Bamboo is also very available in the environment and not cost prohibitive.

I am obsessed with my totally bamboo cutting boards, salad bowl with salad hands and cooking utensils.  These items are very durable, resistant and easy to clean. However, bamboo is becoming a mainstream in cookware, so there are so many other companies out there that you can shop from, as well.  Just know that not all bamboo is made equally, so you need to make sure you are buying from a company that uses good bamboo without other added chemicals or ingredients, such as melamine.

Make this year your year of cleansing and cleaning by getting rid of your toxic products.

Always,

Taylor
